"Can't We Talk?" (condensed from: You Just Don't Understand) by Deborah Tannen
After reading Ms. Tannen's articles i've noticed that alot of couples argue over the little things which gets into bigger arguements. Especially the situation where the women had a scar that she thought made her breast look weird and then the man suggested plastic surgery. She got angry but he wasn't saying he wanted her to get plastic surgery he was just giving her advice because if she was unhappy with it there was always an option. Women tend to seek support from their friends when men do not want support they want to show that they have the upperhand, the higher status. When a women asks a man whats on his mind and he says nothing i do agree it makes her upset because she's got planty of things on her mind, so what is he keeping from her? When in reality he just feels that its useless information that he doesntneed to share at his own home when he's comfortable. He might share something with a close friend outside of the home but he doesnt feel like he has to with his wife, someone who knows him and cares about him. A woman would be hurt to find out he was telling other people things and not her but she has to understand he isnt doing it to hurt her. It just comes down to the point that girls and guys will always think differently.
