A number one national bestseller book called Around The Way Girls by Dwayne S. Joseph, Angel Hunter, and La Jill Hunt writes three different short stories on young teenagers’ life thinking they know it all but are about to get the lessons of heirs lives.
Living in the ghettos in Brooklyn is not east especially Crown Heights. Everyone got something to say about people that lives and hangs out there. Well Sydni, Angel, and Cream live in Crown Heights but to them it is just a place they call home. Cream White is her real name and is the mother of one name Shacquille, the son of the six years old of Wise. Cream’s mother died of Aids when she was thirty-one and Cream was sixteen. Her mother caught it from her long term boyfriend. Cream never knew her father, only his name which was Lewis. There was no one Cream can step up to after when her mother died and she had to raise her cousin Shala. Shala’s mother was in jail for armed robbery. The rest of the family lived down South.
They were poor in cash but rich in love. When her mother died, Cream often thought she would fall through it. So many nights she just wanted to give up. But Cream knew she had to make a decision herself and Shala, who was still a toddler. It was either be on their own or go to foster care, and that she did not want to do that. She can just imagine her and Shala being separated and sent to abusive families. So many bad things could happen in the system, and she did not want to find out. So she did what she did what she had to do and went to one of the local strip joint to see if she would qualify for a job. She would overhear some girls on the train talking about how much money they made from stripping. “Girl, I made over two hundred dollars in three hours. Shit, that is not anything. Come to LaLa’s and you can double that, especially on a Friday night.”
Being a single mother and taking care of your little cousin, who is still a toddler is not easy. Especially when you are broke with no money and to make money you become a stripper to feed the family is not want you want to do in life. Everyone goes through depression when they lost someone they love the most. But you have to know that life goes on and that they are in a better place resting. So you have to pick yourself back up on track and do what you need to do and try not to think about the negative things. A lot of young teenagers these days are having sex without protection and that’s why young girls are pregnant or they have sine type of infection in their body. There is nothing wrong with having sex because it is normal and everyone need their needs. But you should have protection at all the time to keep yourself clean so that you would not catch anything in your body or even get worried whether your are pregnant or not. But being single mother or a single father is not easy. You have to support your baby because no o no else is going to do that. You would have to buy the things the baby need because your parents are not going to buy things for you unless you're lucky. Things would be the same anymore if you have a baby. You would not be able to do things that you use to do. For example, if you want to go out late, you can not because you have to watch your baby because I am pretty sure it would cry at night being hungry and wants milk. You’re dam right, no one wants to be with someone when they are young because you have a full life ahead of you, why stress about taking care of your baby. Have fun when you are still young. There is a lot of stress you would have when your get older in the future.
“I hate this place. I hate these wannabe thug ass niggas, I hate these wannabe fly ass girls. I hate this cold weather. Everyone wants to be someone important and really is not shit. I hate New York and I just want to go back home.” Sydni was only fifteen years old then and he had been miserable. Her mother had decided to move from Atlanta to Brooklyn after Sydni’s great-grandmother had passed away. Her mother sold the house after that happen, packed Sydni, her twelve-year old sister, Miriam, and her sixteen-year old brother, Aaron and they moved. Sydni’s father was from New York and even though she had a chance of running into him, if they headed up to Brooklyn. Now, her brother is dead, her sister is out of control, and to make it worse, her mother is about to get marry to a man that she do not like and can not stand.
I truly understand how Sydni is feeling because she use to live in the environment where she really like and was comfortable with. But everything changes once you move and you’re just not use to the surroundings. That’s why you have to try and adapt it. Some people go from a nice neighborhood to the ghettos or the other way around from the ghettos to a good neighborhood. For example, I live in Queens all my life and all of a sudden, my parents decided to move to upstate, which I call it farmland. There are no places to go unless there is then I do not know, without a car, you really can not go anywhere. If you had to walk, it would take forever or wait for the buses which they do not come often. I went to a new school where I did not know anyone and they all would give me looks and all that good stuff. It was really hard for me to adapt the environment. I took one whole year to get use to it. Everyone in upstate was so different from Queens. I like Queens a lot more than upstate. People just go to adapt their new environment and within a couple of months or a year, you would be fine.
Angel Santiago is a young fine girl and can get what she wants. Whenever she wants it and the way she wants it. The reason why is because she knows the key to the game, but not when she met Frido. No guys can do it like Frido, that’s why she really likes him. Until the end, she realized how stupid he was to be falling for his tricks. Angel thought they were going to be together forever. Frido gave her a heart necklace and she thought it was something special but how he really got the necklace was that he took it from some woman. To Angel, it was something special, and she took it really serious that she fell in love with him. She took it so far and so far, she made love to him. On the other side, while Frido was going out with Angel, Frido had another girl. When Frido was making love with Angel, Frido was recording it and Angel had no idea he was going to do that. Frido thinks he is the shit, showing off and thinks he is a player, player, he shows the tape to his boys and his friends of him and Angel making love to each other. So there was two weeks where Frido did not pick up any of her calls. Till one day Angel was just hanging out with her friends and saw him. She went up to him asking why he didn’t pick up the phone calls and all he said was that he was too busy. Next thing you know is that his boys was talking about it and making fun of Angel. Angel was so mad and upset that she wanted to hit him. After that, she hears a girl talking and hugging him. Angel was so mad and upset at the same time, she goes up to them and starts yelling at them and how they are going to fight and they really did.
Like I said, young girls should not be falling too deep for guys because you have the rest of your life to be finding someone. Have fun when you are still young because by the time you get old, you would not be able to do a lot thing you want to do. Players are always going to be players until they feel like they feel like it. If one plays you, go move on, don’t stick with you because there are a lot of guys out there that you treat you right or the last one that you went out with. Remember girls are more mature than guys a lot faster. No guys like to be with someone so long when they are young. We all like to have fun when we are young. If a guy would never fight over you, you shouldn’t fight for them because it is not worth it. Why waste your time and energy on someone that is not worth it. The most important thing when you are young is go to school and get that education so by the time you're out there living your life, you have a good job and you get paid well. Like I said, guys come and go.
